Deep within the enchanting rolling hills, resided a boy named Shepherd. His existence was unadulterated, simple, and honest. His primary duty was to look after his flock of ewes.

Their soft bleating and the here whispering of the wind among the solo tree on the hilltop were his constant associates. Day in day, guarding his wards imbued in him a notion of tranquil contentment.

However, there were occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would pine for fellowship. In one such instance from sheer tedium, the shepherd boy orchestrated a naughty plan.

Stories of wolves hunting on sheep had been around for a while in the town. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a trick on the inhabitants.

One morning he ran into the village yelling “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers rushed up the hills for rescue but discovered nothing threatening.

The boy giggled at the dilemma on their faces. This trick laughed for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf actually charge at the flock. The shepherd boy ran for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the repercussions of false alarms.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the perils of crying wolf. Moreover, it stresses how trust once broken, is hard to regain. It's a story as appropriate today as it was then.
